Almost two weeks between posts and almost 2 years between drawings.. err paintings. Below is my first digital painting and it was also my first colored pencil painting 2 years ago... simply because I am a man of consistency... and Sonic is awesome.

Scanned a freehand...
....and it seems I'm entering into a whole new season of life, which has demanded more and more creatively. I've been called a creative person more in the last year than probably my whole life... well more precisely it have moved being an adverb to an adjective. Before I was always being accused of creatively breaking things... which is true, things fall apart in my hands some times... but now I'm just creative. In a hands-on kinda way.

And you know its really kinds of funny that with all these people calling me creative, many had no idea I could draw/color (Coloring is a skill!) what have you. Though I'm terrible with a paintbrush. Go figure.

I realized just how much I was suppressing or holding back something I that had in me for a long time. I have been drawing pretty much since I was turned left-handed. That's right I was originally a righty back when I was a perfect baby! I even realized I have more drawing books than any other type of book and my wish list has more drawing books than anything.

You could be saying, "okay so you 'remembered' you can draw and failed to make a Michael Jackson reference. What does this have to do with anything?" Well back then I was going to take art all the way career-wise (mixed with a decent writing ability could have gone far) and that season may not be over, but I have a lot of catching up to do.

But it was delayed.. it happens. We live in a world that wants us to forget what we have in our hearts and our talents. Normally sacrificed for money or time. However, what has made you forget the seed sown back in the day that grew into a tree that is always in your shadow? (Think I'll write a poem on that one). Take a look behind you. What do you see?... and then you remembered. What in our hearts and talents we have come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, like the trees outside. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound? Well let me ask you... if a talent rises out of the world and no one is there to use it will it be appreciated?

Addendum: Don't focus on what's blocking your path, focus on what can do to get around it. Repeating to yourself that there is a tree in the road simply wastes time and won't find a new route or get it cleared any faster.

Another Addendum: When they say if you don't use it you lose it they mean it. I still have free hand drawings from a decade ago that are still better than what I can produce now. Talent does not get better with age if its in a box labelled 'yesteryear.'
